Location and Notes[]
It's strongly recommended that all of your soldiers you take on this mission are Colonel.
The mission takes place on an entirely pre-generated map. The ADVENT Network Tower is an enormous spire located at the center of the map. You will have to hack the Central Broadcast Array.
Many of the enemies will be Mutons, Archons, and Andromedons. These may require grenades to take down, or high level skills. Alternatively, a high-level Psi Operative could use Domination to Mind Control the unit.
The mission ends immediately after hacking the Central Broadcast Array, regardless of the amount of aliens left on the field.
Once the mission ends, a short cutscene will play. The tower's beacon will turn green, and a group of ADVENT Troopers shooting at the Skyranger will collapse. The Skyranger takes off as a MEC shooting at it deactivates.
The scene will cut to Bradford staring at an image of civilians preparing for the Speaker's speech. An officer will inform him: "Firebrand has cleared the perimeter, sir. Meeting limited resistance." Bradford will congratulate Tygan, who was responsible for planting the feedback pulse into the ADVENT Network Tower.
The cutscene will shift to a news broadcast, then the Speaker addressing the crowd about gene therapy. XCOM hijacks the feed and the citizens are shown photos of Blacksite facilities, Retaliation missions, and manufactured troopers. The citizens realize the ADVENT lies and attack the Speaker. The Speaker holds his hands up, uncomprehending, as the camera tilts. A citizen's boot smashes into the camera and everything goes black.
After a brief pause, the Skyranger will be shown landing back at the base and the game will proceed as normal.
Trivia[]
- This is the only mission in which Central does not deliver a randomized briefing, and does not provide a briefing for the soldiers when they are deployed from the Skyranger.
- When XCOM hijacks the video feed, the footage of a Retaliation is recycled from the first Retaliation mission the player encounters.
- This is the final mission in which soldiers are deployed from the Skyranger - the final storyline mission sends them through the Psionic Gate.
- The mission has a unique objective icon, a series of signal bars, that does not appear in any other mission - it corresponds with the objective to hack the Broadcast Array.
- There is a known bug when grappling a soldier - the grapple will freeze and the soldier will teleport to their location. This is purely cosmetic.
- This is the only mission in which soldiers will not speak at all (confirming movement cues, kills) once the squad has been revealed.
- If all XCOM soldiers are lost, the game will give you the opportunity to restart the mission, similar to Gatecrasher.
- This is the last mission to feature the council spokesperson in any capacity. Once the mission is complete, the player is still able to continue proceeding as normal, but any mission that would normally feature the council, and the monthly briefings, will have the screens that would normally show the spokesperson replaced by a static image of the XCOM flag, with no dialogue.
