Ana Ramirez was a Mexican Resistance guerrilla operative and XCOM soldier. She was a survivalist who lived off the grid before the invasion started. After the invasion, she proved to be so skilled at guerilla operations that XCOM convinced her to train their recruits. She set up camp in an old freight yard and had been training recruits for a few months when ADVENT tracked her down and launched an attack. John Bradford speculated that it was probably "the overzealous use of improvised explosives" that tipped off ADVENT to her location. Ramirez was able to send a signal out to XCOM when the attack commenced. Bradford led a squad including Chief Lily Shen, Jane Kelly, and Peter Osei to rescue her, and she officially joined XCOM.
Prior to ADVENT's attack, Ramirez was helping to facilitate the defection of Dr. Richard Tygan. She provided XCOM with Tygan's last known position and participated in the mission to rescue him.
Despite her isolationist lifestyle, Ramirez wasn't a loner crackpot: Bradford describes her as "as sharp as any XCOM recruit we ever had." After joining the Avenger's crew, she resumed her role as a teacher and designed some of the training facilities used during the War for Liberation.

Ramirez was killed by an ADVENT Trooper during Operation Gatecrasher in 2035.

Ramirez is a playable rookie soldier in the first XCOM 2 tutorial mission and a playable sharpshooter in missions 6 and 7 of the Tactical Legacy Pack Legacy Op The Lazarus Project. She is rescued in mission 5, joins as a Major and is promoted to the rank of Colonel for the final mission. Her callsign in The Lazarus Project is Skinner.
