Battle Scanner is a utility item in XCOM 2.

Item Description[]

The Battle Scanner provides extra vision on the battlefield. Soldiers deploy it like a grenade, throwing it to a hidden area of the map that they want to reveal. Any hidden or disguised enemies will be revealed as well.

Tactical Info[]

  • Battle Scanners reveal an area hidden by the "fog of war" for multiple turns.
  • Battle Scanners also reveal hidden or disguised enemies.

Ability Description[]

The Battle Scanner allows better scouting and reconnaissance - when thrown, it provides vision near its landing site. Enemies won't notice the scanner.

– When hovering over the ability icon

When thrown, provides vision near its landing site for 4 turns. Also reveals hidden units.

– When clicking on the ability icon

Notes[]

  • Reveals Faceless and forces them to reveal themselves in their true form.
  • Reveals Chryssalids and forces them to come out from the burrows.
  • Contrary to the in-game description, the area stays scanned for 1 turn only (instead of 4 turns): after the enemy phase is over, the scanned area gets covered in fog of war.
  • Battle Scanners only take a single action point to throw, and do not end the turn.
  • Throwing a Battle Scanner does not break Concealment.
  • Scanning a pod of enemies with a Battle Scanner that you otherwise cannot see will not cause them to become aggressive.
  • Viewing enemies with a Battle Scanner does not allow you to target them with Squadsight.
  • A Battle Scanner opens doors within its area of effect.
  • In War of the Chosen, a Battle Scanner can reveal The Assassin and Spectres should they go invisible and move into its radius.

Tips[]

  • Both Battle Scanners can be used in a single turn to scout a large area of the map at once, or perhaps throw one at a known Chryssalid location to remove it from burrow, and then follow up with a shot.
