The Commander's Avatar is an Avatar in XCOM 2 deployed as an XCOM soldier in the final mission of the campaign, Alien Fortress Assault. The Commander's Avatar is constructed by Chief Science Officer Richard Tygan after completion of the Avatar Autopsy Shadow Chamber research project. Tygan creates the Commander's Avatar by combining the genetic blueprint from the recovered Avatar Corpse with the Avatar template recovered by analyzing the Stasis Suit from the ADVENT Forge Facility and the vial of genetic material recovered from the ADVENT black site.
Chief Engineering Officer Lily Shen creates a way to manipulate the newly-constructed Avatar via the ADVENT psionic network. The Commander is able to interface with the network due to their previous captivity in the ADVENT stasis suit. In the Alien Fortress Assault mission, the Commander enters a stasis suit which allows them to remotely control the Commander's Avatar via the psionic network.
Tactical information[]
- Mental Fortress - The Avatar is immune to any form of negative mental effects.
- Avatar Regeneration - The Avatar quickly regains health when damaged. (5hp regeneration per turn.
- The Commander's Avatar has a Psionic Repeater (which can't be given to any other soldier).
- The Avatar has 18hp and lacks the teleportation of enemy Avatars.
- The Commander's Avatar has the same abilities as an enemy avatar, excluding teleportation
Abilities[]
- Mind Control - The Avatar can seize control of their target's mind, forcing them to turn on their own companions.
- Null Lance - Project a beam of terrible power, that damages every target it passes through. This attack can penetrate multiple enemies and obstacles.
- Dimensional Rift - The Avatar creates a seething dimensional instability that erupts after a short delay. Any victim caught in the blast is damaged, and may be stunned or disoriented by the unnatural energies released.
Notes[]
- Mind Control (Commander's Avatar): When using the Commander's Avatar, be aware that unlike the Psi Operative's Domination ability, the Avatar's Mind Control ability is only temporary. It will expire after 5 turns, and the alien you are controlling will turn hostile and attack if it is not killed by the time mind control ends. (Note that your units can fire weapons at mind-controlled enemies.) To make up for this, Mind Control can be used multiple times throughout the mission, unlike Domination.
- The Dimensional Rift is similar to Codexes ability.
- Mind Control will always succeed due to the avatar's 200 psi strength (unless the barrier dark event is active).
Trivia[]
- The Commander is supposed to have a distinct Avatar, but it made it only in the cutscenes: the final mission itself uses the normal Avatar for the Commander.
- Since enemy Avatars are immune to mind control, this is the only way to control an Avatar over the course of the single-player game.
Technical notes[]
- Commander's Avatar has code
AdvPsiWitchM2.[1]
