Engineers are non-combat XCOM staff in XCOM 2 who perform various tasks aboard the Avenger.
Recruitment[]
New engineers can be gained in a number of ways:
- As a reward for Guerilla Ops missions
- Completing Rescue VIP and Extract VIP Council missions
- Purchased with supplies from the Resistance Goods facility at Resistance HQ (in vanilla XCOM 2 only)
- Bought with Intel from the Black Market
- As a reward for scanning sites on the Geoscape
- In War of the Chosen, recruited from the Resistance Ring with the Tech Support Covert Action
Tasks[]
Engineers can be assigned to clear space for new Avenger facilities by excavating alien debris and alien machinery, and by shielding exposed power coils. Assigning additional engineers completes these tasks faster. Engineers can be assigned to facilities under construction to speed up their completion.
Staffing bonuses[]
Engineers can be assigned to the following facilities to provide staffing bonuses:
- Advanced Warfare Center: Increases soldier healing rate +100%.
- Defense Matrix: Upgrades XCOM Turrets to XCOM Heavy Turrets. In War of the Chosen, staffing this facility additionally grants Squadsight to the turrets and decreases the success chance of Chosen sabotages.
- Infirmary (War of the Chosen): Increases soldier healing rate +100%.
- Proving Ground: Decreases project completion time by 50%.
- Power Relay: Can be upgraded to staff two engineers; each engineer provides +5 power.
- Psi Lab: Decreases training time by 50%.
- Resistance Comms: Increases Resistance Contacts by +2; can be upgraded to staff a second engineer who increases Resistance Contacts by +4.
- Resistance Ring (War of the Chosen): Duration of Covert Actions decreased by 33%.
- Workshop: Provides two GREMLINS who function as remote engineers in adjacent facilities; can be upgraded to staff an additional engineer to provide two additional GREMLIN remote engineers.
