In XCOM 2, the Geoscape is a strategic overview of the Earth accessible from the Bridge of the Avenger. The Geoscape is where the Commander performs the operations of XCOM on Earth. The Commander scans for hostile alien actions, contact resistance cells, seek out valuable resources, and move the Avenger.
Dark Events: ADVENT is hard at work on their own plans to topple the resistance; if completed, they provide bonuses to the enemy. Dark events inform you of ADVENT’s progress towards completing their goals. XCOM can counter their progress by choosing certain Guerilla Ops missions.
Interface[]
The Geoscape is XCOM 2's primary strategic interface. The player moves the Avenger to currently available scanning sites and mission locations via the Geoscape's world map. The player advances in-game time by scanning on the Geoscape. In addition to displaying the location of the Avenger and the locations of scanning sites and missions, the Geoscape interface also tracks the current campaign objectives, current Avatar Project progress, current in-game date, and currently available resources.
To monitor for ADVENT activity and advance time, click on the scanning icon next to the Avenger’s current location.
Regions[]
The Geoscape's world map is divided into 16 regions, each grouped into 6 continents. Each region connects to 2-4 adjoining regions.

XCOM starts on a randomly selected region. Once the Resistance Communications research project is unlocked, the player can can spend intel to begin contacting adjoining regions and opening up new adjoining regions to contact. The player can build Resistance Comms facilities aboard the Avenger to increase the number of regions that can be contacted. Contacted regions provide a bonus to XCOM's monthly supply drop.
After the Resistance Radio research project is completed, XCOM can begin constructing Radio Relays on the Geoscape to reduce the intel cost of contacting adjacent regions and increase the supply income of contacted regions. Once Radio Relays are built on all the regions in a continent, XCOM receives a random continent bonus.
