Gray Phoenix is a faction in XCOM: Chimera Squad consisting of alien scavengers. While they are primarily made up of Mutons, Gray Phoenix also makes use of Sectoids and various species of Vipers. Gray Phoenix kidnaps highly skilled alien engineers so that they can repair a damaged alien vessel from the invasion, and use it to escape Earth - not back to their former masters, but to a place they can call home.
During the events of XCOM Legends, they control New York City and are led by Mother Toth'Quor. They had adopted and raised Rak'Tahar, a failed attempt to create a Chosen. In 2037, Rak'Tahar joins forces with XCOM to end Grey Phoenix control of New York City.
In 2040, during XCOM: Chimera Squad, they are based in City 31 and led by two individuals: Former Muton Engineers Custodian Xel and Crew Chief Yarvo. Yarvo is in command of their ground teams while Xel oversees all technological projects. However, there is no record of either in any Post-War prisons.
Unit Types[]
Legionnaire[]
A shotgun wielding Muton. They can use Demolition to destroy cover without dealing damage to the target.
Adder[]
A Viper with a melee attack that can poison Agents. They can also gain 40 Dodge and +1 extra Mobility as a free action after attacking or moving. Like all Vipers, they are immune to Poison and have an innate Dodge.
Python[]
A Viper with a ranged Tongue Pull and Bind ability similar to that of XCOM 2 Vipers. Like all Vipers, they are immune to Poison and have an innate Dodge.
Paladin[]
A Sectoid with supportive single target Psi abilities. They can establish a Mind-Link with other units, giving them 4 extra HP and Aim bonuses. Similar to XCOM Enemy Unknown Sectoids, killing the Paladin kills any linked unit as well. They can also use Impel, which gives 1 action point to any of their allies, which they can use right away.
Faceless[]
Unlike in XCOM2, starts off revealed. Regenerates health and has a sweeping melee attack that damages all units in an area.
Berserker[]
Similar to XCOM2 appearance, but no longer gets actions when shot. Instead, they gain the ability Enraged - each time when hit, the Berserker's damage increases by +2. This can stack multiple times. Can also go Berserk when shot, attacking nearby enemies or allies. Melee attack can Stun, Disorient or render Agents Unconscious.
Praetorian[]
An armored Muton. Can attack with a shotgun or bayonet. Melee attack can Stun or Disorient. As a passive reaction, can increase their armor by +1 each time when hit by an attack, these persist for 1 turn. Can challenge an Agent to a Duel, which means the Praetorian is guaranteed to hit the Agent and vice versa. They can also give +1 armor to friendly units in an area once per combat.
Dominator[]
A Sectoid with Psi powers wielding an Assault Rifle. Psi Disable can Stun an Agent, making them lose 1 or 2 Action Points, while Dominate mind controls them. Like in XCOM 2, Flashbang grenades or killing them outright cancels Mind Control, and Disorientation blocks them from using any Psi abilities. Shelter's Solace will cancel Mind Control from Dominate, but does not restore action points lost from Psi Disable. Dominators will still target Agents within Shelter's Solace or wielding a Mind Shield with Dominate and Psi-Disable, even though these will fail.
Sectopod[]
Faced in the final Grey Phoenix mission. It has the same abilities as in XCOM2, but it can only fire its main cannon once per turn.
