The Major rank is the sixth rank for soldiers. Unlike most ranks, this rank only has one ability to unlock. Having a soldier at this rank allows the purchase of New Guy and Iron Will at the Officer Training School.

- The XCOM Major rank insignia closely resembles the "winged dagger" badge (actually supposed to be flame-wreathed Excalibur) of the famed Special Air Service of Britain.
