Hey Monkeybite! I'm Technobliterator, and I'm the Fandom Wiki Manager for XCOM Wiki. I'm here to help your community, and I'm a liaison to full-time Fandom Staff. If you have any questions relating to the wiki, whether it's code-related, policy related, or otherwise, I'm your first point of contact.
Feel free to let me know if you need anything! I'll check your RecentChanges every so often, but for the quickest replies, drop me a message on my talk page here!
Hey, requesting admin rights so I can add a bunch of stuff to the wiki. Just need to add the extension for Labeled Section Inclusion for now, but I'm sure other issues will follow, like CSS for tables, so I can reduce the amount of code I have to write, and the ability to add/edit templates. I was active on the Anno 2070 project, and did a compelete overhaul there, and wrote all of the mission guides. Thanks.
Normally I'd be a bit reluctant to make a new user an admin but based on your recent edits and your work over at the Anno 2070 Wiki, it looks like you might have the technical skills and drive to make some much needed quality of life upgrades here; something I've longed lacked in time/know-how to do).
I've gone ahead and updated your user rights. Welcome to the team! Familiarize yourself with the User Conduct Guidelines and feel free to make suggestions. Otherwise I look forward to seeing what you can do!
Hey, I'll be playing with the colors and headings for a bit to increase visibility. If you don't like them, just set them back. The ones I altered (links, buttons, and header) were all set to cyan. I'm not sure what it will look like exactly, just testing.
I've recently seen that when I'm searching for "XCOM 2 DLC", then the appropriate subpage on this website comes up first.
I am making a website that is supposed to summarize DLC for games. Perhaps, if you think my site could be helpful to people who go to XCOM wiki, you could include a link to my site in the sources for DLC, or somewhere? Would help me tremendously and I hope that it would help the visitors too.
I snagged most of them from the Feral Interactive XCOM 2 site unfortunately several units are not featured or the images aren't game accurate: the Specialist being shown with a shotgun and the ADVENT Officer shown with a pistol.

It's really weird seeing the ADVENT Officer with a pistol. I'm pretty sure the ADVENT Pistol never appears in game but it's inside the gmaes files.
As promised in my last message to you, we’ve added further options to make Discussions easier to moderate. There hasn't been much need to regulate users so far, but that may change with a growing number of app users, and these new features may become essential.
Regular users can now report a post or a reply as inappropriate. Admins and mods can choose to only see reported content, which should make moderation faster (currently only available on the desktop and mobile web version).
These new additions will make it easier for your community to enforce the rules in Discussions, because you don't need to read through all content to find the bad posts.
Users now also have the option to view all posts by a user in one handy list, while admins and mods can even delete all posts by a user in one go. Note: You'd need to update your app to the latest version, if you wanted to see these new features there. On desktop, you can of course just head over to Discussions, where this has already been available for a little while. Very soon, it’ll be possible to lock conversations and to stop users from posting further replies, too.
Questions? There’s a Discussions help page
There's now a guide on everything you can do with discussions at Help:Discussions. Feel free to point users there if they have questions - and of course you can still share any questions, concerns, and ideas that come up with me here!
I wanted to ask if you and the other admins/community would be ok with us putting an image with a redirect for the XCOM Community App download on the mainpage. Perhaps replacing the "Featured Images" section with this image;
The image will have a redirect to here when you click on it, that will send a code to your mobile device to download the app on itunes/ios or android
Let me know what you think and I can make the changes...
Hmm, I'm ok with dropping the "Featured Images" (as they don't add any info or link anywhere) but I'm a little leery of putting three ads in a row right there. What do you think of moving "Game News" up and placing this image below it? Speaking of mainpage changes, would it be possible to swap the "Community News" section for an auto-curating "Blogs" section (similar to how it worked on the old mainpage)? There have been a number of useful/interesting blogs recently that I don't think have received fair exposure as compared the rather dated community news on display.
How would you feel about moving the "Buy Now" section to under game news and having the Community App image be where the Buy Now section is. The other changes im totally fine with... You don't need our permission to make changes! Let me know if I'm unclear or you have any questions,
That would work. As for the Blogs section, I was asking because I didn't code the section on the previous mainpage and I'm not sure how it would be integrated with the new template set up that is being used. Can you be of any help setting up the mainpage template?
I work with Knakveey, and am just chiming in on his behalf, since he unfortuantely got sick and had to head home early today.
I took a quick look at the Community News template, and looks like the reason it's not updating with other blog posts is because right now it's only set up to add blog posts that have been tagged as News. If you replace <category>News</category> with <category>Blog posts</category> in there, it should autopopoulate every new blog that gets posted, since all blogs are automatically tagged as "Blog posts".
Feel free to give it a whirl, or I can do it later if you like what you see.
Thanks for the details. I've modified the Community News template to feature Community Blog Posts now. Since I increased the number of covered blog posts to three, I've dropped the Featured Images from the mainpage to keep the overall sidebar length down.
It's a chronic pain the backside for practically every Wiki I can think of, but I've noticed the "Non-portable Infoboxes" alerts here too. Do you want a hand reworking the infoboxes into a compatible version? I've had a fair amount of experience doing it on the Gundam Fanon Wiki.
Some help with those would be great. I'm not sure when Wikia made the change but I've been hesitant to convert many of the infoboxes since I'm still mostly a novice when it comes to building/modifying templates.
I suggest we leave them as is for now, but instead draft up an experimental version to play around with instead and use a sandbox to test it. That way none of the existing pages get screwed up with and people can keep working on pages.
Fortunately it won't be too hard to create a replacement that seamlessly replaces the previous versions, XCOM Wiki's infoboxes are a tad simpler in what they need to do compared to others I've had to work on.
There is a slight hiccup with the plan, I can put together the basic skeleton of the template, but I can't style it to fit in without changes to MediaWiki:Wikia.css.
The old infoboxes work similarly in that they pull formatting from MediaWiki:Common.css, which was a clever trick by whomever wrote them. However, I can't force the infoboxes to pull code from Common.css, so we'll have replicate and modify the formatting, then add it Wikia.css instead.
How you want to deal with this is up to you, either you implement the changes I write up (simple copy/paste), or you temporarily give me admin rights to it. I don't mind how you choose to go about it, both ways work, no rush.
