Insanity is a possible ability of the Psi-Operatives, which may inflict one of several possible effects on an organic unit.
Due to the random nature of which abilities are presented for training in the Psi Lab, this ability has the possibility to be obtained at any rank, and requires ?[explanation needed] days to learn.
Insanity has unlimited uses per mission but has a 4 turn cooldown. The base chance of success is 50%, increased by the level of Psi Amp used, and decreased by the amount of Will Points possessed by the target.
Insanity is also inflicted on valid targets within the area of a Void Rift attack.
Effects[]
If the attack is successful, Insanity has a chance to inflict one of several effects, first attempting a mind control effect as per Domination [explanation needed], then if unsuccessful, inflicting Disorient instead. Any units that are mind-controlled will follow the rules for Domination, without counting against that power's per mission use.
If the ability Schism has been learned, the power will also inflict Rupture and then do 2-4 damage (5-7 due to Rupture), with a possible additional +1 damage for the appropriate Breakthrough[explanation needed]. This will happen even if the unit has been successfully mind-controlled, resulting in the "allied" unit being weakened or possibly killed before it can act.
