- Due to its reduced accuracy as range increases, it is often preferable to switch to a pistol for pot shots against long distance enemies, or before placing an Assault on Overwatch (unless the Assault is locking down a corridor).
- By contrast, the shotgun has a higher aim bonus than any other weapon at close ranges, so they may still be preferable for operatives with low aim but high mobility.
