Q: MEC Trooper Aim Progression?[]

Does anyone have information regarding the stat range for Aim while using the Hidden Potential Second Wave option? I had initially assumed it would be much the same as that of the Heavy class, but in practice this does not seem to be the case.

I don't have a lot of data available at this stage, but I have observed Aim increases of up to 5 points at this stage.

Anyone have any further information that we could add to this Wiki?

after a silly number of reloads for multiple troopers, aim boost for mec troopers seems to be 2-5.  never had it give only 1, and never more than 5.  will seems to be the same caps as with any other class, 4-13

Progression of Will with "Iron Will" activated[]

The potential increase for the 'Will' statistic with "Iron Will" activated is 4-13 for all soldier classes, not 4-12.  It's possible there is a difference between the console (XBox 360) version and the PC version, but 13 points is the maximum increase on the console version of the game, not 12.RougeRogue (talk) 00:26, March 5, 2014 (UTC)

In the game's DefaultGameCore.ini file there are three entries related to Will:
  • iRandWillIncrease=6   Random, w/o Iron Will
  • iBaseOTSWillIncrease=2   Base with Iron Will
  • iRandOTSWillIncrease=4   Random with Iron Will
6 + 2 + 4 = 12. Hence, 4-12. I have personally verified this in both EU's and EW's files, and it is supported by the modding community as well, see DefaultGameCore.ini settings - XCOM:EU 2012. If there is a difference between the console and PC version, please provide a credible reference (e.g. not ufopaedia), and we can state that fact instead of starting an edit war. ;)

I was unaware of the ufopaedia website, but see the one you refer to.  I find little other mention of such a difference on the web -- might I charge up my old Nikon Coolpix's battery, and take a picture, or would I be suspected of image-tampering?  If the increase were capped at 12 per promotion, then the maximum 'Will' a soldier might attain would be 143, if that rookie started with the maximum of 59, correct?  I'm looking at my Assualt soldier, Colonel Rachel "Gonzo" Cook, who has Will of 144 and Aim of 115 (she started with Will: 59, Aim:80, and I controlled the promotions, making sure she got her maximum additional 5 Aim (my priority for her) and at least 11 Will with each promotion).  I'd be happy to hire another soldier, making sure to get a soldier with 59 Will, concentrating solely on increasing that soldier's Will, until the soldier reached the maximum of 150 (59 + 91) -- would that suffice?

Camera's charged up -- here are 3 pictures of the above-mentioned Assault soldier:
1 -- 2 -- 3
Again, I'd be happy to promote a soldier from rookie to colonel, showing the stats after each promotion in pictures, but it seems obvious that there's a difference between the console version (or, at the very least, the XBox 360 version) and the PC version.

I understand what's happening here -- we are neglecting to include the basic Will increase that all soldiers receive per rank, regardless of class, without the Iron Will upgrade (which is not modifiable or included in the game's .ini file as listed above). Since the random number generator includes zeros, the absolute minimum Will increase with Iron Will is the base 2 + Iron Will's base 2 = 4. So far so good.
The theoretical maximum Will, with Iron Will and without Not Created Equally, is:
40 + (4 base × 7 ranks) + (10 random as per the .ini file × 7 ranks) = 40 + 28 + 70 = 138. (This number seems to be widely accepted based on Google searches, but should be verified.)
The theoretical maximum Will, with Iron Will and Not Created Equally, is:
59 + (4 base × 7 ranks) + (10 random × 7 ranks) = 59 + 28 + 70 = 157
If you're saying it's 150, either there is a cap of 13 per level when Not Created Equally enabled, or an overall cap of 150. In either case, the base 2 increase was not included in the article's 12. The original author neglected to include it, and so did I. I'm guessing it is 4-14 without Not Created Equally, and capped at 4-13 with Not Created Equally. This needs some testing and verification, but is probably not a difference between console and PC.

Ahh, that would make sense -- since "Not Created Equally" arrived, I've not bothered playing without it, so have never experienced an increase of 14, despite promoting soldiers dozens of times per promotion, looking for the best combination of stat boosts -- thanks for the clarification, and well done! :)

I know this is a while after the last previous post, but I just started playing XCom EW again recently, and have done a lot of testing on this. The max will increase you can get without Hidden Potential is 12, but with HP it goes up to 13. Or at least, after hundreds of tests, that's the most I've ever gotten in either case.

Movement[]

According to the game files, this does impact movement, assigned in XcomStrategyGame.upk >> XGStrategySoldier.LevelUpStats

http://wiki.tesnexus.com/index.php/DefaultGameCore.ini_settings_-_XCOM:EU_2012#Soldier.2FNPC_UNIT_Balance_Mods

The recent edit should be reverted.

  • I am also in favour of reverting the edit, but at the same time I think I'll go and do some testing of my own before doing so. The editor did mention doing some testing of their own, but without further data from the editor, I have no clue if it's an extensive dataset or not. Whoever the owns the screenshot is simply wrong, I'm amazed this hasn't been contested in almost a decade lol. The soldier is wearing a skeleton suit which confers +3 movement, apparent by the grapple hook ability and lack of ghost armor ability (not that it would make a difference in this case). UFOpaedia describes the exact movement geometry we see in the screenshot, height changes and all. The Major has the same movement stat as what was claimed when they were a Recruit. Without the skeleton suit it would be 9 tiles, because it comes up short of the 1.5 height change to use its last square for horizontal movement still. If you still have this save feel free to test, but I'm in the middle of save scumming supersoldier stat rookies and have seen hundreds of squaddie promotions, 0 times a movement increase. If I get one when I eventually do this at higher ranks I'll come back and fix this but I'm sure I won't lol DontFollowOrders (talk) 22:22, October 24, 2023 (UTC)

It seems to me that in EU, the movement did go up with Hidden Potential, but in EW it does not.
