The XCOM Turret is a robotic unit given by the Defense Matrix to use under XCOM's control in both the UFO Avenger Defense mission and the Chosen Avenger Defense mission.

XCOM Turret is a valid target for Templars's Exchange (XCOM 2: War of the Chosen).[1]

Description[]

XCOM Turrets are repurposed ADVENT Turrets used by XCOM when the Avenger is being attacked. They are situated around the ramp of the Avenger to protect the Avenger from enemy intrusion, and have the exact same complexion and attack pattern as their ADVENT counterparts. They retain the same stats throughout all difficulties and have greater aim and damage output than the typical ADVENT Turrets situated atop rooftops and defensive fortification.

Defense Matrix[]

The base Defense Matrix only gives the player 2 XCOM Turrets to utilize during Avenger Defense, but the Quad Turrets upgrade allows the use of an additional 2 turrets, providing an arsenal of 4 turrets to use in the battlefield alongside any XCOM soldiers. When an engineer is staffed in the Defense Matrix during Avenger Defense, all XCOM Turrets are upgraded to XCOM Heavy Turrets with improved aim and damage output (as well as Squadsight in War of the Chosen).

Abilities[]

  • Mechanical Chassis: This unit is immune to burning, poison, and mental effects.
  • Double Tap: This unit is capable of firing its weapon twice per turn. As a stationary unit, it can either shoot twice, shoot and go on Overwatch, or simply go on Overwatch.
  • Squadsight: In XCOM 2: War of the Chosen, this unit has the ability "Squadsight" when an engineer is staffed in the Defense Matrix. This allows the turret to fire at any enemy within an ally's line of sight.

Tactics[]

  • In the Chosen Avenger Defense mission, the player is able to use the upgraded XCOM Turrets to fire on enemy ADVENT turrets as well as the mobile power generator through the use of Squadsight. This saves XCOM soldier attacks for enemies directly in their vicinity.
  • Although these turrets quickly lose aim as the mission progresses and enemies are farther away from them in Squadsight, they can still be used to destroy enemy cover through barrages of low percentage shots since the magnetic attacks deal considerable environmental damage.
